For Students and Activities Outside of Ohio

For educational activities offered outside of Ohio, 51°µÍø must comply with State Authorization requirements. The following information may apply to students located out of state taking online courses or participating in an internship/field experience/clinical outside of Ohio. Please read all information to understand your responsibilities.

51°µÍø is a member of State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA), authorizes Shawnee State to offer certain activities in other SARA states. SARA is a national initiative to provide more access to distance education courses (e.g., online, out-of-state student learning experiences) while maintaining compliance standards with state regulatory agencies. Online Courses

SSU is approved to offer online courses to students who live any SARA state. Information about member states of SARA can be found here:

Clinical Internships

SARA permits 51°µÍø to place students in a student learning experience that occurs in an approved SARA state outside of Ohio. These learning experiences, also referred to as supervised field experiences include examples such as practica, student teaching, or internships (NC-SARA Policies and Standards, 2021).

51°µÍø programs that may lead to professional licensure are listed below, along with information about relevant accrediting bodies or agencies. SSU does not deal with professional licensing board approval for any courses or programs leading to professional licensure.

Requirements vary by state; therefore, SSU recommends that you contact appropriate licensing agency or board in your state or territory – including states participating in NC-SARA – BEFORE beginning any academic program or coursework. It is the student's responsibility to confirm program eligibility for licensure in any state outside Ohio.
